The first trailer for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakeswhich previously screened at CinemaCon in April, is now officially live.

The teaser doesn’t actually include any footage from the film, although there could be a good reason for that – it seems unlikely that the hunger games prequel has begun filming. While it was originally slated to enter production in the first half of this year, casting announcements are only just beginning to emerge, perhaps suggesting the film is gearing up to start filming now.

Although there is no footage from the film, the trailer promises that “the world will find out who is a songbird and who is a snake”, before revealing the official title card of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

The upcoming prequel is based on the novel of the same title by Suzanne Collins. The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes revolves around an 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow, long before he became President of Panem, as he is tasked with mentoring District 12 Hunger Games tribute Lucy Gray Baird. Tom Blyth appears as the young Snow in the film adaptation, while Rachel Zegler plays Lucy Gray Baird.

The teaser shows a mockingjay perched on a branch above a snake. As the frost that covers them flies away, their golden coloring is revealed. Check out the new teaser of The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes below:

The film is due out next year and will mark the first hunger games movie released since 2015 The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2.

Here is the premise for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes:

Years before he becomes the tyrannical President of Panem, 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow is the last hope of his dwindling bloodline, a once-proud family that has fallen out of favor in a post-war Capitol. With the 10th annual Hunger Games fast approaching, young Snow is alarmed when he is named a mentor to Lucy Gray Baird, the female tribute of impoverished District 12. But, after Lucy Gray gets the full attention of Panem singing defiantly during the harvest ceremony, Snow thinks he might be able to turn the odds in their favor. Uniting their showmanship instincts and newfound political savvy, Snow and Lucy’s race against time to survive will ultimately reveal who is a songbird and who is a snake.
