New outdoor products made with materials you wouldn’t expect

The concept of using durable and novel manufacturing and materials in exterior products is somewhat common at this point, but what’s interesting about the latest generation of innovators is their use of materials that reflect the natural world in which we recreate, with enhanced performance that is only possible in the rough. Whether it’s merino wool, tencel, seaweed, vegan leather or hemp, the new guard of shoes and shirts designed to perform in the outdoors is focused on environmentally conscious creation.

Satisfy organic cotton blended and SeaCell by Pyrate, which uses wood and seaweed to create a biodegradable and energy efficient material. It is also dyed with a natural botanical dye. Beyond unconventional materials, the Cosmetic t-shirt also features functional details like a hidden interior pocket and a detachable exterior label.


Premises x Reed Ten

Loci is a London-based, vegan and sustainable luxury sneaker brand specializing in new and stylish applications of vegan leather and suede. Their eco-friendly shoes are handcrafted in Portugal and feature a bespoke cork insole and premium recycled ocean plastic. A bamboo liner keeps things light and antimicrobial, and a water-resistant upper keeps you dry in wet and wet weather.


Tri-Yarn Thermal Overshirt

Prana is no stranger to the priority given to environmentally friendly fabrics, and its latest overshirt continues its commitment to minimizing impact on the planet. Polartec Thermal Pro fleece fabric provides warmth, while minimizing weight, and is made from 75 percent recycled fabric. Cariuma La Vallée

Cariuma and Mike Vallely have teamed up to create a performance skate shoe made from 100% vegan materials. The shoe features high performance vegan suede, 2.7 times more abrasion resistant than animal suede, along with heavy duty recycled nylon, recycled mesh lining, recycled laces, threads and labels. To complete the whole thing, Cariuma added oil-based plant-based insoles from Mamona and a pure natural rubber outsole.
