We used to take our 3DS with us on vacations, on public transport and in hospital waiting rooms, because it was easy to pick up and drop a game on this tiny little handheld, and put it in standby. whenever your attention was needed.
These days, we’re more likely to take a Nintendo Switch with us whenever we know there will be long downtimes, and while a Switch isn’t quite as portable as the 3DS of the size of a chocolate bar, it can still fit in. a bag or a very big pocket, if you’re lucky. There are also plenty of games on the Switch that fit perfectly into a 15-30 minute session – so we’ve rounded up some of the best here!
It should be noted that approximately any Roguelike or puzzle games make for great short play sessions, but we’ve tried to keep it a bit varied, with online multiplayer games, story games and even RPGs working really well in short bursts. . Enjoy!

If you’re not careful, they’ll make short work of you. Unlike most modern shooters, in DOOM your health does not regenerate. Instead, you’ll have to earn it, just like the good old days. DOOM is one of the best first-person shooters we’ve ever played, and is definitely best-in-class on Switch. There’s a certain magical quality to having a game this good on the go.
Sometimes when you’re stuck on a bus or in a waiting room, you just want to tear yourself up. DOOM will always be there for you.

Much like its predecessor, Puyo Puyo Tetris 2 combines Sega’s Puyo Puyo series with The Tetris Company…er, Tetris. Players can choose to play either mode solo, or can combine them in the bizarre Fusion mode, where Puyos and Tetrominos drop into your play area at the same time. The main heart of the game for solo players, like in the original, is the Adventure mode. As before, Adventure is a lengthy story mode where a variety of weird and quirky characters are involved in a bizarre plot about the worlds of Puyo Puyo and Tetris colliding.
While we tend to think PPT2 is best played with friends, Tetris itself is still a fantastic pastime, and this one is no different. You can also choose Tetris Effect, if you want something a bit more serious.
